Are Superfoods Worth The Money?

It appears as though new studies are being released about superfoods, that they can completely transform your health and change your life for the better. From acai to matcha, these super trendy foods certainty seem to be good for us (not to mention that fact that they are Instagram gold). But are these foods really worth the cost?

Before we get into that, let’s define what a superfood is. In general, a superfood claims to have an incredible amount of antioxidants, as well as several other health benefits.  Foods such as berries, quinoa, salmon and nuts are filled with vitamins and nutrients that help our body function at it’s prime.

But when it comes to superfoods, doctors have revealed that it’s important to stay away from powdered versions of these foods, and to use them to supplement your diet (meaning you shouldn’t only be eating these foods).  So while green tea and blueberries are believed to be superfoods, throwing some powder into your smoothie won’t do very much.  Stick to the real stuff in the fresh produce aisle.

The reason for which a lot of these superfoods come with a super high cost is because of where they come from. Some of they may appear to be more exotic and come from from away. Acai, for example are grown in other parts of the part, and then the popularity of them in North America makes them a whole lot more expensive.

There’s no reason however to be spending so much on these powders. The best thing that you can do is eat natural, unprocessed foods. You don’t need a fancy label to tell you that something is good for you.

Even then, eating healthy, unprocessed, natural foods will not turn you into a super-powered human overnight.  And even more, too much of a good thing can also come with negative effects.

Just make sure you focus on eating a wide variety of fresh foods in your diet.  No need to feel pressured to break the bank to keep up with the latest health trend.
