The Met Gala, fashion’s biggest night, couldn’t have come soon enough. After almost a year of virtual red carpets (if at all), this event, which honors the fashion industry like no other, was long-awaited. Every Met has its theme, and this year’s exhibit was: “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Many guests interpreted the theme in different ways and gave it their perspective and flavor. After the event’s cancellation last year, we had many expectations for this year’s edition, which took place on Monday, September 13th, and, thankfully, our favorite stars didn’t disappoint. Here are some of the best-dressed celebrities on the red carpet of the 2021 Met Gala:

No one does Met Gala like Rihanna, and this year was no exception. The singer was fashionably late to the carpet, showing up in a couture black Balenciaga coatdress designed by the brand’s creative director Demna Gvasalia. Rihanna’s full-length, puffy coat featured a dramatic collar. The Fenty Beauty CEO paired the ensemble with a beanie hat, a crystal headpiece, and a glittering diamond necklace.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress sure knows how to show up to an event such as the Met Gala. Laura Harrier stunned the carpet, wearing a glamorous custom Altuzarra gold gown made out of lamé fabric, and featured Turkish knit embroidery. Harrier matched her look with Roger Vivier’s heels. The Hollywood actress walked the carpet along with designer Joseph Altuzarra.
Normani

Normani’s style game doesn’t seem to disappoint! The singer walked the red carpet in a mustard-yellow ball gown by Valentino, which had large puffed sleeves that rose above her shoulders, a cinched waist, and an open neckline. Normani wore her hair in a bun and accessorized her look with a matching diamond-and-sapphire necklace and rings from Lorraine Schwartz. Normani looked regal and stunning in her ball gown (and yes, it has pockets!).
Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in a sheer crystal-embellished Givenchy Haute Couture gown over a corset bodysuit. The supermodel completed the look with a sparkling high-neck choker and retro updo. Jenner’s look was an homage to Audrey Hepburn’s iconic Givenchy gown from the pivotal ball scene in My Fair Lady. The supermodel posted a clip from the iconic film and a black-and-white photo of Hepburn wearing the crystal-embellished dress on her Instagram Story before hitting the red carpet.

Billie Eilish made her debut at the Met Gala this year, also serving as a co-chair at this year’s event. Channeling Old Hollywood glam – and therefore nailing the American Fashion theme – Eilish wore a stunning nude dress by Oscar de la Renta, which featured a dramatic train. Eilish’s hair was styled in a Marilyn Monroe-esque bob, which was far from an accident, as the young singer’s look was inspired by the black tulle dress Monroe wore to attend the Oscars in 1951. Eilish accessorized her look with Cartier jewelry.
Kaia Gerber

Another girl who attended her first Met Gala this year is model Kaia Gerber. The model proved she knows how to stick to a theme and nail a fashion reference – sporting a look inspired by Bianca Jagger’s 1981 Met gala look, which was originally created by Dior. Gerber looked gorgeous, enlisting Oscar de la Renta to re-create the strapless black gown, which featured floral detailing around the neckline. To complete the look, Gerber wore her hair in Jagger-esque waves, parted to the side.
Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller is a certified fashionista, and she didn’t disappoint us yet again, looking sensational on the red carpet. Miller wore a glittering gold gown by Gucci that featured cut-out detailing across the chest and was adorned with silver beading along the bodice. She paired the golden gown with a glamorous fur coat that trailed behind her as she descended the famous staircase. The actress styled her hair in loose waves and donned glittering silver earrings.
Yara Shahidi

Yara Shahidi proves time and time again that she understands the red-carpet assignment. For this year’s American-themed Met Gala, Shahidi paid tribute to a significant woman in U.S. history, Josephine Baker, the boundary-breaking American-French entertainer. Shahidi arrived at the carpet wearing a custom strapless Christian Dior gown, embroidered with intricate beading and fashioned with a thin belt and a long trail. The actress’ look also featured elbow-length gloves, lined in matching beading, a braided cap, and a diamond choker.
