This means that you should actually look into doing activities that you both enjoy and that will serve as a workout. Hiking can be seen as a workout for a number of reasons. Firstly, you are walking. By now you should know that walking has been and will always be a form of exercise. While walking you use a number of different muscle groups in your body. Secondly, while hiking you are most likely to be walking uphill. Walking uphill adds resistance to your walking which is great for building muscle.

Also, hiking increases your heart rate which is exactly what you do at the gym. This means that you are definitely exercising while hiking. Your body is consistently moving which is exactly what you want when working out. So you see, regardless of where you are working out, as long as you can feel these changes in your body, you are working out.
