Facing and Coping With Disappointment

Life is not without its joys and disappointments. Often, we have higher expectations from ourselves which we do not end up meeting. If the expectations remain unfulfilled due to circumstances beyond our control, then the disappointment is not as deep and harsh as when we fail to achieve our dreams and goals to their fullest due to our own actions, such as procrastination, panic, or our assumptions about something without actually experiencing it first. However, in such an instance, it is important to not allow the blame to overcome yourself and remain calm while realizing that there will be more opportunities, and to store this disappointment as a learning experience and to improve your perspectives and habits based on the disappointment which could have been avoided.

Disappointments are a part of life, just like joy. However, it is important to weigh your joys and disappointments differently. In order to be content, one must remember that life may present disappointments frequently, but life presents joy even more frequently. One must try to find joy even in the tiniest things, such as the first warm day after a brutal winter, the wind on your face while taking a swing, or being warm under a heavy blanket after a tiring day. While major disappointments are not as common, and should not be allowed to overwhelm you as every cloud has a silver lining, and the sun shines even brighter after a heavy downpour.

After suffering disappointment, be sure to unwind and relax. There is no need to begin getting your life in order the very same. Day. It is a harmful mindset to harbor that one only deserves rests and breaks as reward after achieving something. Everyone is entitled to rest and relaxation, it does not need to be earned. Watch a movie, read a book, or go to sleep. Promise yourself you will do better next time and consider it a valuable lesson learnt.
