Our daily lives are swamped with us being bombarded with marketing strategies from one brand or another. From the ads on social media thrown in our faces the moment we wake up, to the bright billboards we have to cross everytime we go to work, school, or a social occasion. We are constantly being told to buy the newest big thing, upgrade to the new styles and revamp our entire wardrobes. However, it is not feasible to do things like that unless you’re a rich celebrity. So how do we use trends in a useful but sustainable way?

Firstly, it is important to be disciplined throughout all this. In order to do that, we must be able to take a break from the marketing of different brands and consider what our own needs are. Do we need a certain article of clothing? Is the change of the seasons a good reason to impulsively spend on new clothing? It is a good idea to list down the exact clothes we need before we go shopping.

Another important tip is to research the kind of clothes we want beforehand. For example, if we’re looking to buy new formal pants for the workplace, it is helpful to first search the different kinds of formal pants online to determine what exact style we’re looking for. This is so that, later on, you don’t find yourself getting an item you thought you needed but regret buying once you get home. If the fitting or the cut wasn’t what you initially planned to get, you would now have clothes that don’t quite fit into the outfits you had in mind.

With these tips in mind, it becomes relatively easier to follow trends because you aren’t buying everything that stands out at first glance, and are selecting which trends are actually attractive to you.
