Online dating. It’s at an all-time high right now. Whether you love it or hate it, it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down any time soon. But navigating our way through the online dating scene can be extremely difficult, not to mention tiring. With dating apps and hookup culture, it can be hard to think we can ever meet anyone significant in this day and age. Our generation is bombarded with conflicting messages about love, so how is one to make use of all this information? Although it might seem impossible, we are more than capable of finding long-lasting, healthy relationships.

Caitlin Zick, the co-director of Moral Revolution, a California-based ministry said that dating can be a bit easier once we figure out “what our core values are.” This is pretty essential and ensures that you won’t be wasting your time. Nobody has time for that. We are so busy with work, friends, etc. we want to make sure we are on the same page with the person we are interested in. In a world of digital fish, it can be hard to catch the right ones. But that’s why there is more than one dating app out there. There are so many options in the online dating world. There’s Tinder, which is synonymous with hookups, or OkCupid, which some say is more aligned with people aspiring for long-term relationships. Sop whatever your reason may be for joining an online dating app, know that there are options for everybody.

Another important thing to keep in mind is to not put all of your effort into online chemistry. You know the feeling, we’ve all been there. You start chatting with a guy online and send cute texts back and forth. When you finally meet, there’s no spark. You are left wondering what happened to that rom-com-like exchange you shared earlier. But online chemistry isn’t the same as in person. Also, you don’t want to build up expectations in your head before even meeting a guy. Although it might seem daunting to some, one way to combat this is by getting on a quick Facetime call before meeting up. You’ll be able to pick up on things you may not be able to in text. But above all, you don’t have to be nervous about asking someone from the get-go to meet up. Take charge, get out there, and tackle online dating.
