We live in such a fast-paced world. We’re always striving to be bigger, better, stronger, and faster than we were. The pressure is constant, and most workplaces are extremely competitive. When we get tasks or missions, things need to have been done by yesterday. This pace of life is also matched with the ‘instant’ life we live in. With the click of a button, we can order something online, and in less than a day, it’s already in our cupboards. Long gone are the days where correspondence took weeks, nowadays if someone doesn’t reply to a work email or WhatsApp within 10 minutes, they’re lagging behind.
With all these benefits, come the drawbacks too. We may lose some appreciation for the finer things in life. Our patience is challenged if there’s a delay we’re not expecting. But more importantly, we’re not really taking a moment to breathe. With everything whirlwind around us, most of our energy and attention is devoted to working or maybe taking care of other people. The problem this creates is that little time is left to focus on ourselves.
Losing touch with who we are, can be distressing. It can cause people to become depressed, unsure of what they even enjoy in life, and this, in turn, affects every other aspect of our life as well. Taking some time for yourself can be more beneficial than you realize. And it doesn’t even have to be an active thing, like taking an exercise class.

The point of Me Time is simply taking time for yourself. No phone, no computer, no contact with outside stresses. For some people, this may be disconnecting from the world by sitting on the couch in your pj’s and binging some Netflix and eating pizza. For other people, it may be booking a facial or a massage. Everyone is different, and every one of us has our own way to just relax, and recharging our batteries. Take some time to figure out what will work best for you, and do it. It may take time, but it’s worth it. If you give yourself some TLC, you’ll be able to recharge your batteries, which gives you the strength to be the best you that you can be.
