When you truly love someone, you don’t get to pick and choose which days to love them and which days to not. It’s a highly demanding full time, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week job. So why do we take on such a task that comes with no break? Well because it’s so incredibly rewarding to love and be loved.
Loving someone is unbeatable when they are having a great day, are on a high on life, are happy, healthy and successful. Really, there’s nothing better when they are able to give you back all the love in the world, all the attention, and spoil you rotten. It’s a dream.
But life, unfortunately, is not all rainbows, cupcakes, honeymoons in paradise and photo shoots all day. And especially not love.
Loving someone unconditionally, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, for sicker or in health, just like we promise to each other in our wedding vows is what is truly unbeatable. True love is not choosing when to love your partner. True love is caring for your person every day, every morning, every night, no matter what, even on their worst days.
Even when they’re angry at you, even when you fight, even when they were lazy, even when they’re feeling hormonal, even when they haven’t showered for a few days, even when they vomit all over you, fart until you almost suffocated, even when they’re full of acne and aren’t looking their best. Because that’s love.
So the next time you feel unloved, keep in mind that this job offers no vacation days.
