Have you ever felt so stressed that your mind and heart are racing super fast that you don’t know what to do with yourself?  Whether you’re going through a rough time or are going over and over in your head about the late-night conversation you just had, the stress happening at work, there’s no shortage of things that can cause your head to go crazy.

But fear not, there are tons of things you can do to help you when you’re stressed to reduce those anxious thoughts. Take a deep breath, it’s all going to be ok.  It’s important to visualize how you want things to go.   We all daydream here and there, so why not dream up a positive outcome for whatever may be stressing you out?  Try picturing yourself succeeding in that presentation and impressing everyone in the room. Our thoughts are a seriously powerful weapon, and we do in fact have control over them.

According to experts, when your mind is full of stressful thoughts, by focusing on one sound, it can help you bring yourself back the present moment. Soothing tunes are also recommended, which can help shift your mood and refocus your attention.

Think about balance.  Anything that requires your full attention can work. Toss a ball between hands, stand on leg, and do anything that requires coordination or balance. It can bring a shift in brain activity and reduce anxious thoughts.  It’s also useful to recognize your thoughts and to try to understand how they affecting you.  Focus on your breathing, close your eyes and pay attention to each breath and its sound. It’s a form of simple meditation that can calm a racing mind.
