Every relationship is unique, made up of and driven by two unique, separate individuals. However, the main goal of every relationship is to feel loved, valued, respected, and at peace. Every relationship requires some effort and commitment from both parties to make it flourish in a stable manner. Certain compromises from both ends are essential, especially if the couple lives together. Whether you have been with your partner for many years, or you have just established a new relationship, here are some tips and tricks to stay connected and maintain romance and enjoy everlasting happiness in your relationship.

Don’t be afraid of respectful disagreement – since relationships consist of two unique and separate individuals, there are bound to be differing opinions and views on certain matters. Do not be afraid to express disagreement and you should feel safe while expressing your differing opinion. Have a life outside of your relationship – It is not fair to expect one person to meet all of your needs and requirements, as it can put a lot of unhealthy pressure and unrealistic expectations in the relationship. To preserve your own identity and the personality which drew your partner in, it is important to have hobbies and interests and maintain connections with family and friends.

Be open and honest – good communication is the key to any successful and healthy relationship. The expectations, desires, needs, and wants should be clear from the first day so a healthy relationship can be established. One should not be expected to read the other’s mind nor should one be afraid of expressing themselves in their relationship with a romantic partner. Maintain an emotional connection with each other – this is absolutely essential to keep the flame alive and burning. Both parties should make each other feel loved, emotionally fulfilled, valued, and respected. A relationship does not have to be characterized by grand romantic gestures, understanding is much more important and goes a long way as well.
