Much like a first impression, the first date truly sets the tone for your relationship. So knowing what to and what not to say can be a real help. Now before we get into that you have to remember to be yourself, regardless of what is said. In most cases, you are talking to someone that you don’t know. This tends to make starting a conversation a bit awkward. But don’t worry, you won’t have to sit in front of your date with nothing to say. There are in fact a few topics that can help you not only start a conversation but help you get to know your date better.
When you think of topics to discuss on a first date anything really goes. After all, you are trying to get to know the person better. With that said, you really want to try and avoid small talk and close-ended questions. Small talk would be asking questions like what their favours are. Favourites mean things like what their favourite colours are, favourite food, favourite drinks and so on. Now yes, you do want to know these things eventually but when you have been in the dating game for so long it feels really tedious. Do keep in mind that you don’t really want to hit them with the hard questions like what their five-year plan is. Try to keep the conversation light.
