There are a few unique ways in which the health of women differs from the health of men, and it’s so much more than just reproductive health. In a lot of societies today, the woman represents the cornerstone of a family and their overall health. The change of a woman’s health has a great impact on the health and well-being of her children and family. And at the end of the day, women tend to outlive men, so it’s worth giving that extra bit of attention to women’s health.

Of course, due to biological differences, there are certain areas of health that only apply to women. For this reason, it is super important to listen to any advice from relevant medical professionals. Regular checkups as advised by your doctor can help catch certain diseases like cervical cancer in early, treatable stages. Breast self-examinations can also be done in the comfort of your own home, as advised by a professional. Another main difference between men and women is our hormones. Women go through natural hormonal fluctuations throughout life. During the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, post-birth, and menopause. These shifts can lead to depression or anxiety, often presenting in ways we’re more familiar with such as PMS, ‘baby blues’, and during perimenopause. In addition to this, a lot of women are unaware that heart disease affects just as many women as it does men.

Therefore, it is extremely important to keep healthy, because doing so, can help avoid many of these health issues down the line. But even short term, it has been shown that keeping a healthy lifestyle makes you feel better in your day-to-day life. When we exercise, our brain engages the reward system, leaving us feeling positive. Exercise has also been shown to lower stress levels and anxiety, thus helping to keep our mental health intact as well. Combine this with eating healthily, your body is then also getting all the nutrients it needs, and clearing out any toxins. In a nutshell, a healthy lifestyle can help improve overall health and reduce the risk for heart disease among others.
